Arrangement
Calendars are chronological by trial term ("sitting"), and individual entries are chronological by date. Each case is numbered sequentially. Each volume contains multiple booklets, one for each circuit court "sitting."
Scope and Content Note
The calendars contain lists of civil cases commenced in the Supreme Court of Judicature and announced for trial in regular Circuit Court terms and in additional "sittings" in the city and county of New York. Each entry includes the names of plaintiff and defendant and their attorneys, date when issue was joined, and type of action (e.g. assumpsit, case, debt, trover, etc.). The calendars were maintained by the court clerk and contain many notes indicating the disposition of cases (tried, inquest, settled, etc.). Earlier booklets also contain financial accounts with attorneys.
