Scope and Content Note

This volume is a transcript of the docket of money judgments rendered in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and docketed by the court clerk, whose office was located in New York City.

Each entry includes name of the party against whom judgment was obtained (defendant); name of the party in whose favor judgment was obtained (almost always the United States); amounts of judgment debt and court costs; date and time of signing judgment roll; date and time of filing judgment roll; name of prevailing party's attorney (almost always the United States Attorney); and date of satisfaction of judgment (usually blank). Volume includes the transmittal letter from the clerk of U.S. District Court (Southern District of New York) and his certification that the transcript is a true copy of the original docket.

Original docket of judgments is in the National Archives at New York City (Record Group 21).

Transcript was prepared by the clerk of the United States District Court (Northern District of New York) and filed in the office of the clerk of the New York Supreme Court of Judicature in New York City, pursuant to an act of Congress passed March 3, 1839.
