Scope and Content Note

The Convention Record comprises the published verbatim transcripts of the complete proceedings of the Convention from April 5 to August 26, 1938. The Record is divided into Numbers 1 through 71, one number for each of the sessions held by the Convention. A Revised Record was published subsequently to the Record and contains the delegates' corrections and additions made to the original transcript.

The series contains four subseries, each one a different version of the Record or Revised Record.

Subseries 1: Typescript copy of the Convention Record. This consists of a typed copy of the complete Record contained in 8487 pages in 14 volumes.

Subseries 2: Convention Record with Delegates' Corrections. This consists of multiple copies of approximately half the printed Convention Record (Numbers 34 through 71, with gaps). The copies contain pencilled corrections or additions added by delegates. The changes were usually very minor ones to clarify or expand upon what was said during the proceedings. These changes were later incorporated into the Revised Record.

Subseries 3: Corrected Copy of the Convention Record. This consists of one printed copy of Record with all delegate corrections or additions contained in Subseries 2. This copy was used to prepare the Revised Record.

Subseries 4: Corrected Printer's Page Proofs of the Convention Revised Record. These are the page proofs from the state printer of the Revised Record containing all the corrections and additions made by delegates. This copy contains the final corrections made by the Secretary of the Convention and was the last stage in the printing of the Revised Record.
