Scope and Content Note

The series consists of copies of outgoing correspondence, sometimes with incoming letter(s) attached, of Asemblyman William Hoyt. The bulk of the records are letters and form letter responses to individuals and constituent groups, and some are addressed in advocacy to Assembly colleagues or other government leaders and policymakers. The series also includes a small amount of background material, pertinent memoranda (some in support of pending legislation or programs), and copies of cover letters sent with transmittal of requested materials.

The letters cover a wide range of issues, ranging from abortion to retail wine pricing, many of which were of recurring concern. There is some correspondence relating specifically to children's services (which was a matter of prime interest to the Assemblyman), and one "budget letter book" which acknowledges constituent opinion letters on state budget proposals (protesting proposed cuts, making the case for specific restorations in funding or increases in state aid). Overall the series is representative of the actions and positions taken by Assemblyman Hoyt during his tenure representing Assembly District 144, and his concomitant committee work.
