Power of attorney from H. Jansen to A. Herrman to collect debts due in New Netherland

Before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary of New Netherland, appeared Hay Jansen, master of the ship St. Jacob, who appoints and empowers, as he does hereby, Mr. Augustyn Heerman on his behalf to demand payment of and to collect all such debts as he, the principal, has outstanding here in New Netherland, according to the particular instructions to that effect handed to Mr. Augustynes; also, if it be necessary, to carry on legal proceedings, whether as plaintiff or defendant, and to prosecute the case to the end, with power to substitute one or more persons and on payment to execute a discharge, which shall be valid; he, the principal, holding as valid whatever shall be done in the matter by his aforesaid attorney. This day, the 20th of October anno 1646, in New Amsterdam.
