Bond of Claes Jansen Ruyter and Harmen Douwessen to Willem Turck for merchandise received

We, the undersigned, Claes Jansen Ruyter and Harman Douwesz, hereby acknowledge that we are well and truly indebted to Mr. Willem Turc or his order in the sum of forty-three whole and one half beavers, arising from goods to our satisfaction received before the execution hereof from the above named Mr. Turc. We therefore promise promptly and without any exception to pay the said beavers before the departure of the ship Pijnappel, [1] for which we bind our persons and property, movable and immovable, present and future, submitting the same to all courts. In testimony whereof this is signed by us the 24th of August A°. 1648, in Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland.

The above named Claes Jansen and Harman Douwesen not being able to pay Mr. Turck on the day appointed, according to the tenor of the above bond, they promise to pay Mr. Turck or his order precisely, without delay or postponement, in four months, and in addition one beaver a month as interest. In testimony wherof this is signed by them the 23rd of September 1648, at New Amsterdam.
