Before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary of New Netherland appointed by the General Chartered West India Company, residing at Fort Amsterdam, appeared Mr. Olof Stevensz, late commissary of the store and of cargoes and now a freeman, who in the presence of the undersigned witnesses appoints and empowers, as he does hereby, Gerrit van Hengst, merchant at Amsterdam, to ask, demand and receive in his, the principal's, name from the honorable directors of the Chartered West India Company, at the chamber in Amsterdam, all that he has earned in New Netherland and that is due to him, the principal, by the honorable directors, according to the account thereof On payment of said amount of the account by the honorable directors to the above named Gerrit van Hengst, or his substitute, he shall have power to execute a receipt therefor in due form, which shall be valid; he, Olof Stevensz, holding as valid whatever shall be done and transacted in the said matter by his above named attorney or his substitute. Wherefore he, Olof Stevensz, requests that an authentic instrument be made hereof. Thus done and the original hereof in the record signed by the above named Olof Stevensz, with Johannes Rodenborch and Jacob Kip, as witnesses hereto invited. Done in Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland, this 31st of August A°.11648.
