Deed from Pieter Linde to Barent Jansen of twenty morgens of land on the shore of Long Island

On this day, the twenty-ninth of January anno 1652, before me, Andries Johannis Christman, clerk ] appointed by the honorable director general and council of New Netherland, appeared Pieter Linde, of the first part, and Barent Janssen, of the second part, who in the presence of the undersigned witnesses declared that they had agreed and contracted with each other about the purchase of a certain piece of land, on the conditions hereinafter written.

Pieter Linde has sold to Barent Janssen, who also acknowledges that he has bought and paid for a certain piece of land, containing twenty morgens, stretching about south-east one hundred and ninety rods toward the woods to Sassian's maize land, alone the edge of the said maize land fifty rods, back to the strand two hundred and twenty rods, about north north-west somewhat northerly, and along the strand seventy rods; which aforesaid land is situated on Long Island between Andries Hudden and Claes Janssen Ruytuer's land, and further as large or small as appears by the patent granted under date of September 11, 1642, by the Hon. Director Willem Kieft, deceased, to and for the behoof of Pieter Linde. The seller hereby cedes his right and title to the aforesaid land to the aforesaid Barent Janssen or those who may acquire his right from now on and forever, and promises to free the same from all trouble and claim which any one in the world may make thereto, the parties promising that they will hold this their agreement, sale and conveyance firm and binding and that they will observe and carry out the same, under submission of their persons and properties ] to all courts and judges In testimony whereof they have signed this with Jochim Beeckman and Abraham Rycken, as witnesses hereto invited.
