Series:
Scanned Document:

Before me, Cornelis van Ruyven, appointed secretary in New Netherland in the service of the Chartered West India Company, appeared the worthy Mr. Isaack Allerton, the elder, an old and established citizen of this city of Amsterdam in New Netherland, who declared that whereas he and his partners have been granted permission to send their little ship called the Charles, of which Grinfil Lerben is for the present master, to the Curacao islands to take in there a cargo of salt or horses, he offers himself as surety and principal debtor (under renunciation of the beneficium ordinis excussionis) for the honorable Company's dues and valid payment of whatever the said Grinfil Lerben or his successor shall trade and negotiate with the vice-director. To which end he binds his person and property, real and personal, present and future, submitting the same to the control of all courts, judges and justices. In testimony whereof he has signed this with Mr. Corn. van Tienhoven and Jan Paul Jacquet, as witnesses hereto invited. Actum, Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland, the 6th of December anno 1655.
