Proceedings against Elias Emmens

At the session, present: the honorable director-general and high council (except for Mr. Werckhooven), appeared Cornelis van Thienhooven, fiscal, plaintiff against Elias Emmens, presently a prisoner; Cornelis van Thienhooven, by virtue of his office, submits his complaint in writing against Elias Emmens. Pursuant to Emmens' request, the fiscal is ordered to provide him with the charge in writing. Done in New Amsterdam, 24 August 1654, New Netherland.

Appeared at the session, present: the honorable director-general and all the councilors (except Mr. Cornelis van Werckhooven) , Cornelis van Thienhooven, fiscal, against Elias Emmens, presently a prisoner; the plaintiff submitted, by virtue of his office, a complaint in writing, to which the prisoner, Elias Emmens, responded also in writing. The responses aggravated his case rather than improving it; therefore, the fiscal shall persist with his previous complaint.

Elias Emmens requests the witnesses [      ] .
Secondly he requests mercy.

The director-general and council order Elias Emmens [      ] he has anything else for his defense that he relate the same or put it in writing. The prisoner says that he shall put it writing. Done in New Amsterdam, 28 August 1654.
