Appointment of Jan Lubbertsen to be clerk

Whereas Jan Lubbertsz, soldier, who arrived aboard the ship, de Beer, on [      ] July has competent handwriting and promises to apply himself diligently; therefore, he is hired as clerk with a salary of eighteen guilders per month and one hundred guilders annually for board. Done in New Amsterdam, 8 September 1654.
