Letter from director and council to the governor of Connecticut
We, the undersigned, attest [ ] today, date underwritten, the copy [ ] attached inventory of the ship, de Hay, [ ] a resolution[158] by the honorable director-general and council of New Netherland dated 20 October 1654, which was placed in the hands of the factor, Mr. Hendrick van Elswyck by the secretary, Cornelis van Ruyven, promising to confirm the same by oath if required. Done at New Amsterdam in New Netherland, 26 October 1654.
Honorable, Discreet and Very Esteemed Gentlemen: Whereas it has pleased God to end the short, but nevertheless, bloody conflict between such old friends, allies and co religionists, and to transform it into a closer union, firmer friendship and closer alliance than has ever existed between the two nations, of which we in this American wilderness (God be thanked) shall enjoy
