Notes

The court of Wiltwijck was established in 1661. Under the English this community in the mid Hudson Valley was renamed Kingston. Previously the entire region was under the jurisdiction of the court of Fort Orange. At this time and long after the establishment of Wiltwijck the region was known as the Esopus.
Ebbing was requesting the return of his farm which was leased to Slecht, and the lease, which the Wiltwijck court refused. The council, however, granted Ebbing’s appeal. See NYHM, Kingston Papers, 1:26 and NYCM, 101: 121.
Although this document is listed as number 26 in O’Callaghan’s calendar, it is actually marked 164:25. There is no 164:26.
