Letter from William Beeckman to secretary van Ruyven

Series:
Scanned Document:

Honorable, Esteemed, Wise, Prudent and very Discreet Lord:

My Lord, Dirck Smidt has been complaining that he has lost the bond issued him last June amounting to f70, light money, for freight to this place; therefore, I gave him another one which you may be pleased to accept.

I have heard nothing from you by these two yachts. I fear that the sad events in the Esopus may have hindered a response to ] my request. However, I hope that it will be done, by your favor, with the next ships.

Yesterday I again received news at New Amstel that another two English people have been murdered up above in Maryland by Sinnacus.

Coenraet ten Eyck writes me concerning the account of Herman Hendricx van Deventer. What concerns the auction of his effects, the inventory and will, shall be sent to him ] upon your order.

In conclusion, I commend you and your family to God's protection, remaining, after wishes for a long life and prosperity.
