Scope and Content Note
This series consists primarily of correspondence to and from State Engineer and Surveyor Roy G. Finch. Some earlier correspondence (1924) to and from State Engineer and Surveyor Dwight B. LaDu is also included. Some replies were prepared by the assistant deputy and deputy state engineer. Subjects include sale of state land, transfer of canal land to state parks, land appraisal, requests for information and inspection, sand and gravel permits, state contracts, canal terminal development and location, and development and extension of the Barge Canal and other canals. Correspondents include Conservation Commission officials, boat builders, division engineers, construction contractors, and mill owners.
Included among the correspondence are receipts, blue print maps, summary descriptions of terminal facilities, and property descriptions. Also included is a copy of Barge Canal Contract 65, book 9-J.
Processing Information
This series was transferred to the State Archives from the Records Center in 1983 (transfer list #115-67, box 16207) as part of Series A0501 (now 11833). This series was designated 11834 but accessioning was delayed until 1997.
