Administrative History
The Executive Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice, commonly known as the "Liman Commission," was appointed by Governor Carey in 1981. It investigated prison overcrowding, voir dire (jury selection) reform, sentencing, parole and probation laws and procedures, and criminal justice information management (electronic data processing and storage systems).
Scope and Content Note
This series includes memos, correspondence, hearings, copies of commission reports, and research, background and study files. The series is (roughly) arranged according to the following topical areas, which reflect the commission's subcommittee structure: jury selection; corrections; criminal justice information management; federal-state relations; courts; and police.
