Scope and Content Note

This series consists of correspondence and memorandums of the Electronic Data Processing unit. The main part of the series contains copies of outgoing letters and memorandums from Robert E. Scharg, Director of State Computer Systems Development, and other staff of the unit. The correspondence and memorandums concern all aspects of electronic data processing in state agencies, including plans, specifications, bidding, contracts, purchase or lease of equipment, budget requests, and statistics of use. The items are contained in loose-leaf binders and are arranged in reverse chronological order in each binder. There is no index to this part of the series.

A sub-series consists of correspondence and memorandums, minutes of meetings, and reports concerning installation at the Office of General Services of a Honeywell H6060 mainframe computer, replacing an IBM 370/158. This conversion took several years to plan and implement, and difficulties experienced in the Honeywell system became a matter of public comment and debate. The documents relating to the conversion are found in seven loose-leaf binders; they are in reverse chronological order. Summary lists of documents are found in Volumes 9 and 11. These lists give the date of each document and précis of its contents.
