Administrative History
The Temporary State Commission on Rental Housing was established by Chapter 203, Laws of 1977 to study the supply, condition,
cost, and demand for rental housing in New York City and elsewhere in the state, as well as the laws and regulations governing
rental housing.
Scope and Content Note
The records of the Commission consist of transcripts of public hearings and of inquiries held by the Commission; statements
submitted at hearings; summaries of hearings; and minutes of Commission meetings. There are also subject files containing
a small amount of correspondence and much background material on rental housing; rough drafts of the Commission's final report;
special studies on various aspects of rental housing, produced by Commission staff and others; a bibliography on rental housing;
comments on pending legislation; and files of Chief Counsel Joseph F. Lisa. Records from 1970 - 1976 include statistical data
on court cases involving tenants in New York City and upstate.
