Administrative History
These records document efforts by a coalition of state education departments to oppose elimination of the deductibility of state and local taxes on itemized federal income tax returns. The group asserted that deductibility amounted to an indirect federal subsidy to public education. These records were created by the Federal Legislation Unit to monitor and promote the position of the State Education Department on this issue, which was commonly referred to as "SALT-D".
