Administrative History
Laws of 1907, Chap. 429, sect. 66(6), required each gas and electric corporation to file with the Public Service Commission a "full description of its property and franchises."
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of copies of certificates of incorporation; transcripts of corporate records relating to changes in capital stock, bond issues, and mortgages; consolidation and merger agreements; consents of local governments constituting franchises; deeds and mortgages, copies of court decisions affecting franchise rights, charts of corporate history and structure, and maps showing locations of utility lines, filed by gas and electric utilities in New York City and adjacent counties. Most of the documents were filed under Public Service Commission First District filing order No. 2068 between 1916, when the order was issued, and the 1920s. Some documents were filed in relation to franchise cases heard by the Public Service Commission.
