Scope and Content Note

This series includes publicity material for most performances produced by the New York State Theatre Institute (NYSTI) and its predecessor bodies, the Empire State Youth Theatre Institute (ESYTI) (1974-1982) and the Empire State Institute for the Performing Arts (ESIPA) (1982-1992). Most of the posters are high-quality color prints designed and drawn by talented local artists. Most of the playbills are staple bound, and contain extensive detail about the productions, performances, and performers. In addition, there are general publicity and information releases for individual NYSTI productions, seasonal performance calendars, and flyers for educational services and programs. NYSTI offered internships, residencies, and study guides for teachers and students, all of which are represented in the series.

22464-16: This accretion contains approximately seventy-six publicity posters created by the New York State Theatre Institute and its predecessors to promote the institute's various productions. These color posters range in size from 14 x 22 to 22 x 29 inches and advertise theater productions of "To Kill a Mockingbird," "The Wizard of Oz," "Pinocchio," "The Snow Queen," and others. Additionally, posters were created to promote the institute itself and productions held by visiting theatre troupes such as the Moscow Musical Theatre for Children, which came to the Capital District in the 1980s to perform "The Blue Bird," "Miracle Music," and "Petya and the Wolf." Some of these posters are in Russian and include cast members' signatures.
