This series contains teaching and study notes, reading lists, examination questions, outlines and drafts of papers, a few graded examinations, and some correspondence of James Sullivan prior to his appointment as State Historian in 1916. Courses include American, European, economic, constitutional, legal, and political history. Also included in this series is 1916 correspondence of State Historian James A. Holden concerning distribution of published "Proceedings at the Unveiling of a Memorial to Horace Greeley at Chappaqua, New York February 3, 1914."
