Summary:
These reports were submitted by town school commissioners to county treasurer's then to the Secretary of State and finally to the legislature. For each school in town the report includes the name of the schoolmaster; number of children taught; and the number of days of instruction provided. This series was partially burned in the State Capital fire.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of reports submitted by town school commissioners pursuant to legislative act. The reports were submitted to county treasurers who transmitted them to the secretary of state. The secretary then transferred them to the legislature.

These reports give the following information about each school in the town: name of school master (teacher); number of children taught; and number of days of instruction provided. This series was partially burned in the State Capitol Fire of 1911 and is incomplete.

Custodial History

Records were transferred to the NYSL at an unknown date and subsequently transferred to State Archives as old series 242, accession -182.

Use of records is restricted pending conservation treatment: fragile - burned and brittle.
