Scope and Content Note
This series consists of volumes containing applications and registrations for trademarks on bottles and casks. The description for each entry includes the type of business, use, and kind of trademark (e.g. bottle, embossed with company name). Records were created under Laws of 1847, Chapter 207, which provided for filing in the office of the Secretary of State and the county clerk's office descriptions of the names and marks used by manufacturers of bottled soda and mineral waters, and malt beverages such as beer and ale. Laws of 1896, Chapter 933, expanded the coverage of the law to include bottled milk, cream, medicines, perfumes, oils, etc. Records of trademarks post-dating 1908 are held by the Department of State.
