Scope and Content Note

This series contains correspondence, memoranda, transcripts, final reports and drafts, preliminary reports, and reimbursement forms.

The first subseries, Reports, contains drafts and final reports of the commission and its committees. The second subseries, Transcripts, contains both commission and committee transcripts of meetings and one public hearing detailing the commission's organization and its exploration of New York's educational needs.

The Subject File relates to topics explored by the commission such as medical, dental, and nursing education and fiscal studies on the commission's recommendations. In addition, the commission examined what barriers existed which could prevent minorities from participating in higher education. The file also includes items concerning the establishment and goals of the commission.

The Correspondence File contains routine correspondence such as requests for the commission's preliminary report and the commission's requests to institutions for information relating to their operation. The Commissioners' File details each commissioner's responses to the drafts of reports and meeting minutes, as well as documenting other business such as the expenses incurred related to commission work.
