Administrative History

The 1820 law authorized the city to release its debt burden by selling vacant public land in a lottery. The lottery was run by the commissioners of the "Albany City Stock" who had been appointed to improve the city's finances.

Scope and Content Note

This series contains items relating to the Albany City Lottery of 1822. A large printed sheet contains copies of official correspondence and notes on the approval and conduct of the lottery.
