Scope and Content Note
These volumes provide fair copies and later carbon copies of the outgoing general correspondence.
Correspondence relates to various functions of the Comptroller's Office: correspondence to county treasurers acknowledging receipts of State tax monies; correspondence with individuals and law firms relating to taxation or payments for services; correspondence with State agencies reminding them to send expenditure statements or asking for clarification on their reports. Some volumes are missing. There are three volumes of correspondence for 1894-1895 by Comptroller James Roberts which duplicate the years, but not the subject matter, of those in the volumes which comprise the main body of this series. The subject matter of these letters still relates to official business of the Comptroller. The reason for the separation of these volumes from the main body has not been determined.
