Judgment Referring to Holland the case of Jan de Fries, who is charged with having associated with the enemies of the government and calumniators of the chief magistracy, calling the director a liar in presence of the council, and attempting to strike him, assaulting councillor La Montagne, for all which he had been already cashiered; afterwards speaking disparagingly of the director, and declaring that he spat on any commission issued by him, addressing derisive papers to the court, and excepting to the judges; prisoner ordered to sail in the first ship, to justify his conduct. Referring to Holland the case of Jan de Fries vs. Gysbert de Leuw, for slander, in having asserted that a negro wench in plaintiff's possession was the property of the company, having been previously the slave of Juan Antonio, a Portuguese, at Marignan, who had been arrested for treason, and was therefore incapable of selling the woman, as the plaintiff pretends. This was an action to recover damages done to a parcel of beaver skins, sent from Fort Orange to New Amsterdam; defendant denies having sent the beavers down, and it appears that they were so sent to the plaintiff by two magistrates of Fort Orange, after defendant had left that place, defendant is nonsuited. Resolution. Fixing the rate at which wine and brandy are to be retailed in New Amsterdam.

Resolution. Authorizing the fiscal to visit the cellars of the tapsters, in order to ascertain what liquors they have on hand.

Order. On a petition of the tavern-keepers of New Amsterdam, praying that the brewers and merchants may be obliged to sell their beer, wines, &c., at a lower rate.

Minute. Of the appearance of Mr. Koo, Mr. Gildersleeve and Daniel Wittheat (Whitehead), on behalf of the town of Heemstede, and an order to the last to furnish copy of complaint to parties.

Resolution. Setting forth the arrival, at New Amsterdam, of the galiot, The Bride, whereof Isaac Abrahamsen Wyt, the skipper, sailing from Enckhuysen, was killed, which vessel governor Winthrop of Boston certifies to have been sold to Robert Scot and John Cook of Boston and New Plymouth, merchants, and recording the sale, providing that the same has been in good faith, and that security be given for the purchase-money.

Answer. The director, &c., granting the petition of the burgomasters and schepens aforesaid.

Declaration. Messrs. La Montagne and Werckhoven, that they had no knowledge of, nor gave consent to, a separate petition from the above convention, and that they did not attend the session of the 27th.

Order. To imprison Claes Bordingh, as he refuses to declare where he obtained certain articles of contraband found in his possession.

Letter. Burgomasters and schepens to the inhabitants of Midwout, requesting them to elect two delegates to a convention to be held at the city hall.

Resolution. Granting the prayer of a petition, presented by the Nine men, requesting that no more hogs be shot on the wall (of the fort in New Amsterdam), and that the fort be surrounded by palisades.

Court proceedings. Sergeant Casper vs. Jan Peeck; ordered that the plaintiff shall cause his complaint, which is in English, to be translated into Dutch. Thomas Baxter vs. Egbert van Borsum; plaintiff desires that defendant pay his rent and deliver his house water tight or vacate the premises; ordered that the lessee pay the rent so long as he occupies the house. Adriaen Keyser, auctioneer, vs. Augustyn Heerman; plaintiff demands preference of payment out of the estate of Peter Anthony; ordered that he come in with the other creditors.

Notice to merchants. That the ship King Solomon will be detained until March, and if they have any freight to despatch by her then, to apply to the captain in season.

Petition. The deacons of the church, respecting the proceeds of some purchased lands; granted.

Resolution. Rejecting a petition of the surgeons of New Amsterdam, praying for the exclusive right to shave.
