Summary:
This series consists of information on motorists convicted of violating Article 11 of the Highway Law, pertaining to driver licensing, motor vehicle registration, public highway use, and motor vehicle speed. Information includes the name, address, section of the highway law violated, sentence and location, dates of judgment. Administrative History

Article 11 of the Highway Law established regulations for the licensing of drivers, the registration of motor vehicles, the use of public highways, and the speed of motor vehicles. Chapter 374 of the Laws of 1910; which enacted Article 11 of the Highway Law, gave the authority to register motor vehicles and license drivers to the Secretary of State. It also mandated the trial court or court clerk to immediately certify the facts of the case of any conviction under Article 11 of the Highway Law to the Secretary State. The clerk was required to record this information in a register.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a register containing information on motorists convicted of violating Article 11 of the Highway Law. Arranged in columnar form, each page of the register lists the name, address, section of the highway law violated, sentence and location, and dates of judgment, filing with Secretary of State and entry into register were recorded for every motorist who had violated Article 11 of the Highway law. The Secretary of State used the information recorded in the register to determine whether a license or registration would be revoked or renewal would be denied. This record series is arranged alphabetically by last name.
