Summary:
This series consists of the correspondence and working files of the staff of Study 7, the Study of the State Education Department, conducted by the Regents' Inquiry into the Character and Cost of Public Education. Study 7 produced separate reports for each division or bureau in the Education Department. The series includes working files for each of the reports on State Education Department divisions and bureaus prepared by the Study 7 staff. These working files include drafts and file copies of Study 7 reports, notes, maps, memoranda, clippings, correspondence, and copies of publications relating to the division or bureau under study.

The Regents' Inquiry into the Character and Cost of Public Education conducted studies in seven major areas. The study of the State Education Department produced separate reports for each division or bureau in the Department which include the unit's history and legal status, functions, major activities, personnel and costs, publications, relations with other departmental units, as well as recommendations by the Study 7 staff.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of the correspondence and working files of the staff of Study 7, the Study of the State Education Department, conducted by the Regents' Inquiry into the Character and Cost of Public Education. The correspondence and miscellaneous working files include correspondence of the Directors of Study 7 and his staff with members of the Regents' inquiry staff and the State Education Department; Study 7 expense records; and reports, tables, and copies of legislation pertaining to the State Education Department. This series also includes working files for each of the reports on State Education Department divisions and bureaus prepared by the Study 7 staff. These working files include drafts and file copies of Study 7 reports, notes, maps, memoranda, clippings, correspondence, and copies of publications relating to the division or bureau under study.

The correspondence and miscellaneous working files are arranged by subject or correspondent and thereunder the correspondence files are arranged in reverse chronological order. The working files for reports are arranged alphabetically by the name of the division or bureau under study.
