Scope and Content Note
This series consists of copies of ten reports prepared by the Division of Research at the request of Commissioner of Education Francis T. Spaulding. The reports assess the action taken within the State Education Department in response to the recommendations of the Regents' Inquiry into the Character and Cost of Public Education, conducted from 1935 to 1938. Each report presents both the recommendations of and the actions taken relating to one aspect of the Regents' Inquiry. The subjects of these reports are: secondary education; the elementary school; school district organization; economies in school costs; state aid; the teacher; colleges and universities; adult education; the State Education Department; and school health and physical education.
