Scope and Content Note

This series consists of correspondence and one blueprint map relating to title to real property in the city of Buffalo, New York. Buffalo attorney Willima H. Warhus contacted state officials on behalf of an unnamed client seeking title to land in the vicinity of present-day Albany Street, Normal Avenue, and Hampshire Street. Warhus cites Laws of 1875, Chapter 505 which provided that in the event that specified streets in the city were abandoned, the city was to convey the abandoned land to owners of adjacent property. Counsel for the city claimed that title to the land in question belonged to the state, and therefore refused to advise the city council to approve conveyance. There is no indication in these records regarding the ultimate resolution of the matter.
