Scope and Content Note
This series consists mainly of incoming correspondence directed or forwarded to the Inspector General's Office.
The files are routine in nature and deal with such topics as the construction and repair of state armories, inspection of troops at depots and recruiting stations and review of various claims. The files also contain a number of replies to a circular issued by the Inspector General's Office in 1867 requesting county clerks and newspaper editors to submit the names and addresses of all general officers appointed from a specific county during the Civil War. The correspondence dating from 1875 consists of acknowledgments for receipt of general and special orders issued by the Adjutant-General's Office. These records are only a small part of this office's correspondence files; there are many gaps. The location of the remaining files is unknown.
Related Material
