Summary:
The series consists of summary information on inmates received at the Eastern New York Reformatory. Most inmates were received from the New York State Reformatory at Elmira. Others were received from Auburn, Sing Sing or other State prisons or were returned to the reformatory for violating parole. Information includes name; prison transferred from; crime; sentence; color; occupation; marital status; age; city or county of birth; literacy; temperate or intemperate; tobacco use; and previous confinements.

Scope and Content Note

The series consists of a one volume register containing summary information on inmates received at the Eastern New York Reformatory from October 1, 1900 to August 29, 1908. The majority of the inmates were received from the New York State Reformatory at Elmira. Others were received from Auburn, Sing Sing or other State prisons or were returned to the reformatory for violating parole.

The following information is included for each inmate received: name; prison transferred from, if applicable; date of sentence; date first received in prison; crime; duration of sentence; county where convicted; former trade or occupation; indication if employed when arrested; married or single; color; age; city or county of birth; can read or write; temperate or intemperate; tobacco use; previous confinement in State prison - crime, prison where confined, duration of sentence, and name used during previous State prison confinement (if different); and previous confinement in county prisons - number of times confined, name of county, crime, duration of sentence, and name used during county confinement (if different).
