Scope and Content Note
These bound volumes provide a chronological register of Federal prisoners admitted to Sing Sing.
Revised Statutes of 1895 required state prisons to receive and keep United States prisoners who were sentenced to those facilities. The following information is contained in the admission register (also known as a "receiving blotter"): name, including aliases; date and place of conviction; offense; term of sentence; date of sentence; beginning and expiration date; expiration date with good conduct; place of birth; marital status; ability to read and write; age; physical description; previous occupation; religion; if foreign, date left old country; where and when arrested; time in jail before trial; inmate number; and general remarks.
