Scope and Content Note

This series consists of correspondence and preliminary notices of appointment forms. The preliminary notices inform the recipient of eligibility for appointment in the Office of the State Engineer and Surveyor. They are not appointments, but rather requests for information.

After informing the recipient of the position and the pay rate by day, week, month or year), the notice requests reply to three questions. They are: does the recipient wish to be considered for the described appointment; what is the earliest start date after appointment; and, what is the least amount of compensation the recipient would consider. The forms are dated and contain the address of the recipient.

In addition to the notices, there are numerous pieces of correspondence addressed to the State Engineer and Surveyor concerning employment. Many of these records deal with the rejection of offers. Others deal with requests for transfers, applications for positions, or related subjects.
