Scope and Content Note

This series consists of correspondence directed mainly to the State Engineer and Surveyor's office. The bulk of the correspondence contains requests for employment or applications or letters of endorsements. The series was compiled approximately at the time it became apparent that the state would construct the Barge Canal (Chapter 147, Laws of 1903).

Custodial History

The records were transferred to the Department of Public Works in 1925, and to the Department of Transportation in 1967.
