Scope and Content Note

This series consists of "estimates of work done and material delivered," compiled monthly by contractors who had been awarded canal projects. The monthly estimates were submitted to the State Engineer and Surveyor in order that the figures could be verified before payment was made by the state. The monthly estimates deal with numerous canal projects, each of which was authorized by a specific legislative act.

The monthly estimates provide the following data: the period covered by the estimate; name of contractor; date of contract; description of the canal project; authorizing statute(s); quantities of materials; description of items; contract and relative price; amounts; percentage retained; amount of payment; materials delivered (quantity, description of items, contract and relative prices, percentage retained and amount of payment); extra work (same categories as materials delivered); materials furnished by the state if applicable (same categories); and the total estimate figures (previous and present).
