Administrative History
State scholarships for the professional study of medicine and dentistry were established in 1949, and continue to be given at present. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of results of a competitive examination. They can be used at any approved school of medicine or dentistry in New York State.
Scope and Content Note
These computer-generated lists change somewhat in format throughout the period, but generally provide the following information about each candidate: name; identification; examination scores in individual subjects (examples of subjects include chemistry, biology, physics, vocabulary, mathematics, reading, and modern society); several types of computed scores (examples include A score, S score, and T score); field code number; residence code number; college code number; and years of study. Some lists include a key to field and residence code numbers, but there is no key to college code numbers. The names of colleges are provided on the 1951 and 1952 lists.
