Administrative History
Under Chapter 468 of the Laws of 1935, the Industrial Commissioner of the Department of Labor was charged with the administration
of the Unemployment Insurance Fund, with the assistance of a State Advisory Council of nine members appointed by the governor.
The council considered and advised the Industrial Commissioner upon all matters connected with the Unemployment Insurance
Law submitted to it by the commissioner and recommended changes in the administration of the law.

This series contains a variety of records created by the State Advisory Council on Employment and Unemployment Insurance.
Record types include minutes of council meetings (1940-1975); legislative bill files dealing with unemployment insurance issues
(1943-1957); correspondence with commissioners; correspondence with governors (1935-1985); minutes of the Employment Service
State Advisory Council (1934-1941); Court of Appeals decisions (1943-1961); and audits of unemployment insurance funds.
B1505-01: This accretion contains council meeting minutes (1935-1964); legislative bill files (1936-1976); correspondence
(1937-1960); and committee files (1936-1967).
B1505-13: This accretion consists of press releases and reports released by the council in 1939. It also contains related
press releases from the Joint Legislative Committee to Investigate the Administration of the Unemployment Insurance Law, 1939.
Custodial History
B1505-01: These files were transferred to the State Archives from the Department of Labor in 1995, but were not accessioned
until 2001.
