Scope and Content Note
The series consists of a scattered collection of plans, specifications, and black-and-white photographs documenting various buildings inspected by the State Fire Marshal. The inspections apparently were undertaken after buildings sustained fire damage, or as a result of applications to install equipment or construct additions to buildings. State and local laws regulated construction, alteration or repair of any building to prevent fires.
Included are approved proposed alterations to the Columbia Theatre, Chatham (1915); four photos of a "dilapidated" partially burned Flannigan Brothers building, Mechanicville (1913); about three dozen unlabeled photos of unidentified "electric meter installations" (some showing fire escapes); approved handwritten specifications for material and labor of a frame addition to a building on Western Avenue, Albany (1896); a blank copy of "Boiler Inspector's Report" for examination of boilers, Buffalo (1913); and a catalog for the Pawling School, at Pawling (1912-1913 term).
