This series is an index of damages awarded by the Canal Appraisers for the enlargement of the Erie Canal and for the construction of other canals, particularly the Chemung and Chenango Canals. Each entry provides the following data: name of claimant; county where claimant's property was located and filing number (in red ink); date; volume and page reference; amount of the award; and when paid (name of canal is in red ink, and is often abbreviated).

Custodial History

This series was originally part of series A0802, Selected audited accounts of state civil and military officers (Box 21). It was removed and accessioned as series B2027 in July 2009.
