Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible website of the New York State Banking Department, which was abolished on October 3, 2011, when its functions and authority were transferred to the newly created New York State Department of Financial Services.

B2052-07: This accretion consists of a copy of the Banking Department site that was produced on December 21, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It includes lists of financial institutions supervised by the department, applications and charter forms for financial institutions, and the department's weekly bulletin (2001-2006) outlining applications and charters received by the department, actions undertaken by the department's superintendent and the State Banking Board, and notifications of filings by federally chartered financial institutions seeking to open new branches.

This copy also contains press releases (2004-2006), texts of speeches (2004-2006) delivered by the department's superintendent, selected regulations (1999-2006), and staff interpretations of various state and federal laws (1966, 1968, 1970, 1974, 1977-2006). Also included is information about home mortgage loans, purchase and leasing of automobiles, identity theft, and other information of interest to consumers.

B2052-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the Banking Department site that was produced on April 29, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). Some of the information in it is also present in the December 21, 2006 copy, but this copy also contains newer press releases (2006-2008), texts of speeches (2006-2008) delivered by the department's superintendent, and departmental weekly bulletins (2003-2008). Additional selected regulations (1999-2008) and staff interpretations of various state and federal laws (1966, 1968, 1970, 1974, 1977-2008) are also included.

B2052-11: This accretion consists of a copy of the Banking Department site produced on January 27, 2011, shortly after Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. Some of the information in it is also present in previous copies of the site, but this copy also contains newer issues of the department's weekly bulletin (2006-2011), press releases (2007-2011), and texts of speeches (2007-2011) delivered by the department's superintendent (2007-2011). Also included are additional selected regulations (1999-2008) and staff interpretations of various state and federal laws (1966, 1968, 1970, 1974, 1977-2010). Annual reports to the Governor and state legislature (2001-2009), a Banking Board meeting schedule (2011-2012), and information about rates for treasury securities (2003-2011) and mortgages (2008-2011) and other matters of interest to consumers are also present.
