Administrative History

The Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority is a New York State public benefit corporation created by the State Legislature in 1968. Its mission is to plan, create, co-ordinate, and maintain a balanced community of commercial, residential, retail, and park space within its designated 92-acre site on Manhattan's lower west side.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible website of the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority.

B2053-07: This accretion consists of a copy of the Battery Park City Authority site that was produced on December 20, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. Owing to the site's extensive use of Javascript and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only the pages containing contact information for the authority's departments and the site's privacy policy and terms of usage were captured successfully.

B2053-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the Battery Park City Authority site that was produced on May 20, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). Owing to the site's extensive use of Javascript and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only the pages containing contact information for the authority's departments and the site's privacy policy and terms of usage were captured successfully.

B2053-10: This accretion consists of a copy of the Battery Park City Authority site produced on December 27, 2010. Owing to the site's extensive use of Javascript and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only the pages containing contact information for the authority's departments and the site's privacy policy and terms of usage were captured successfully.

B2053-17: This accretion consists of a copy of the Battery Park City Authority site produced on January 26, 2017. It contains meeting agendas and minutes of the authority's Board of Directors (2013-2016) and the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy Board of Directors (2014-2016); newsletters (2015-2017); press releases (2016-2017) and public statements (2016); and procurement opportunities. Also present are the authority's annual reports (2008-2015), budgets (2007-2017), financial statements (2002-2016), and a wide array of financial and operational reports (2007-2016). Information about museums, memorials, parks, and public art in the vicinity of Battery Park City and residential life in Battery Park City is also present.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archived site differs substantially from that of the live site.

B2053-20: This accretion consists of a copy of the Battery Park City Authority site produced on February 7, 2020, during the third term of office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only the home page could be captured successfully; clicking on any of the links on the home page will take one to the January 26, 2017 copy.
