Administrative History

The Forest Preserve Board was created in 1897 (Chapter 220) to acquire land for the State of New York. The functions and powers of the board were combined with those of the Water Supply Commission and the Forest, Fish, and Game Commission in 1911 (Chapter 657) to form the Conservation Commission.

This volume was compiled by the Forest Preserve Board. It contains the original abstracts of title and Comptroller's tax searches related to lands to be acquired by the State of New York. The documents in the volume are the full original or certified copies of original documents. Searches relate to the state's acquisition of forest preserve lands sold by the State Comptroller for unpaid taxes.

Custodial History

This volume was transferred to the New York State Archives by the Department of Law, Real Property Bureau, and presumably came into the custody of that office in relation to its official responsibility to approve the legal aspects of state land acquisitions.
