Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).

B2063-07: This accretion includes a copy of the main OCFS Web site produced on December 21, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains information about adoption and foster care services, services to Native Americans, domestic violence services, rehabilitative and custodial services for court-placed youth, child day care, services to people who are visually impaired, and prevention of child, adult, and elder abuse. Also included are press releases (2001-2006), newsletters (2003-2006), select reports and other publications (2000-2006), the text of legislation (2005-2006) governing the work of the office and local social services providers, and enacted and proposed regulations (2006) issued by the office. Researchers should note that, owing to the site's formatting and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archived site differs from that of the live site.

This accretion also includes a December 26, 2006 copy of the office's New York State Partners for Children site. This site consists of a single webpage of links to the sites of fourteen state, local government, and private agencies that worked together to promote child welfare. Researchers should note that none of these links work properly.

B2063-08: This accretion includes a copy of the main Office for Children and Families site produced on May 28, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the office and the services it provides and additional press releases (2002-2008), newsletters (2003-2007), and enacted and proposed regulations (2007-2008) issued by the office. Also present are electronic versions of leaflets (some in Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian as well as English ) detailing various services provided by the office.

This accretion also includes a May 7, 2008 copy of the office's New York State Partners for Children site, which consists of a single page of links to sites of other child welfare agencies; none of the links work as they should. Researchers should note that this site was removed from the live Web sometime after it was copied.

B2063-11: This accretion contains a copy of the main Office for Children and Family Services site produced on December 20, 2010, shortly before Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains information about the office and its services and additional press releases (2002-2010), newsletters (2003-2008), enacted and proposed regulations (2007-2010) issued by the office, and electronic leaflets (some in Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian as well as English) detailing the office's services. Also included are annual reports (2007-2009) and policy directives (1990-2010) concerning OCFS facilities and programs, local government child welfare agencies, and regulated childcare facilities.

Researchers should note that accessing the home page of this copy may generate a security warning. If asked whether to keep or discard the file that prompted the warning, discard it.

This accretion also includes copies of three other sites maintained by the office. The Online Bidders List site (copied December 17, 2010) contains a list of procurement opportunities. The office's Twitter feed (copied January 13, 2011) contains news items and links to resources available to the public, and its YouTube channel (copied January 13, 2011) consists of a snapshot of videos the office made available to the public. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live pages and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within these pages could not be captured properly. Researchers should also note that repeated efforts to capture the office's Facebook page in early 2011 were not successful.

B2063-15: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Children and Family Services Web site produced on January 21, 2015, shortly after Governor Andrew Cuomo (2011- ) completed his first term of office. It contains information about the office and the services it provides and additional press releases (2008-2013, 2015), annual reports (2003-2015), and policy directives (1980-2015), and publications (some in Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Haitian Creole, Korean, Italian, and Arabic as well as English) detailing the office's services. Also included are news articles (2012-2015), forms (1999-2014), data concerning child welfare (2009-2013), public notices (2013), and an events calendar (2015). In addition, this copy contains newsletters (2009-2014) released by the office's Adult Protective Services Division and press releases (2010-2013), videos (2009-2013), executive board meeting minutes (2008-2009), and other materials relating to the New York State Commission for the Blind. Materials relating to the State Rehabilitation Council include annual reports (2010-2013), meeting minutes (2010-2013), and a fact sheet (2014). Materials relating to the prevention of child abuse include Healthy Families New York program reports (2004-2010), Children and Family Trust Fund annual reports (2007-2013), and videos and other resources for concerned citizens. Also present are Domestic Violence Act annual reports (2000-2013) and related resources.

This accretion also contains copies of two other websites maintained by the Office of Children and Family Services as of January 2015. The Online Bidders List Web site (copied January 20, 2015) contains a list of procurement opportunities. Researchers should note that most of the information contained within this site could not be captured in 2015 and that this site was removed from the live Web sometime after it was copied. The office's Twitter feed (copied February 13, 2015) contains news items and information about upcoming events. Researchers should note that, owing to the limitations of Web archiving technology and the structure of the live sites, most of the information contained within these sites could not be captured properly. Researchers should also note that, owing to the structure of the live sites and the limitations of Web archiving technology, repeated attempts to capture the Office's Facebook and Pinterest pages and YouTube channel in 2015 were unsuccessful.

B2063-20: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) site produced on February 10, 2020, during the third term of office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo (2011- ). It contains background information about the office and additional press releases (2007-2020), newsletters (2013-2020), and policy directives (1980-2020). Statistical data and reports (2000-2020) concerning the number of children in foster care placements, juvenile justice facilities, and custodial facilities throughout the state and individual counties; grant program expenditures; and provision of services to the blind are also present. This copy also contains additional executive board meeting minutes (2008-2016) and materials created by the New York State Commission for the Blind; Adult Protective Services newsletters (2009-2019); and Domestic Violence Act annual reports (2000-2018). Plans and reports (2014-2019) relating to the State Child Care Development Fund and information relating to contracts, bids, and Requests for Proposals formerly found on the Online Bidders Site are also present.
