Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites maintained by the Department of Environmental Conservation. Researchers should note that, owing to the site's size and the limitations of Web archiving technology, efforts to copy this site prior to mid-2008 were not successful.

B2088-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the Department of Environmental Conservation site produced on May 9, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the department's mission and organizational structure, press releases (2008), newsletters (2003-2008), and reports and other materials relating to permits and licensing (1994-2008). Also included are reports and publications covering a wide range of topics including outdoor recreation, conservation of animals and plants, pollution control, environmental education, renewable energy, environmental regulations and their enforcement.

Researchers should note that clicking on the "Press Releases" link on the home page of this copy will redirect to the Press Releases page of the December 28, 2010 copy of the site.

B2088-10: This accretion consists of a copy of the Department of Environmental Conservation site produced on December 28, 2010, shortly before Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains information about the department's mission and organizational structure, press releases (2004-2010), online newsletters (2003-2010), "The Conservationist" magazine (2005-2010), environmental notice bulletins (1999-2010), applications for departmental grant programs, an events calendar (2010-2011), and information about permits and licensing. Also included are maps, reports, and publications (some in Spanish) covering a wide range of topics including outdoor recreation, conservation of animals and plants, pollution control, environmental education, renewable energy, and environmental regulations and their enforcement.

B2088-15: This accretion consists of a copy of the Department of Environmental Conservation's Twitter feed that was produced on January 15, 2015. It contains information about departmental news and events. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this feed could not be captured appropriately.

Researchers should note that attempts to capture the main Department of Environmental Conservation website in early 2015 were not successful.

B2088-19: This accretion consists of a copy of the Department of Environmental Conservation site produced on October 31, 2019. It contains information about the agency's mission and organizational structure, boating, camping, fishing, and other recreational activities on state-owned lands, and the state's natural environment and issues such as climate change and flooding. It also contains forms and other information relating to permits, licenses, and certifications relating to hunting, fishing, activities affecting waterways, wetlands, and costal lands, water usage and treatment, drilling and mining of mineral resources, wastewater treatment, and other activities regulated by the department. In addition, it contains information about the agency's role in preventing and reducing air, water, soil, and other forms of pollution, including select state implementation plans and state plans (2008-2019) created as a result of the federal Clean Air Act. Also present are press releases (2017-2019), environmental notice bulletins (2017-2019), and issues of and excerpts from The Conservationist magazine (2014-2019). Decisions (1990-2019) of hearings held by the agency's administrative law judges and commissioner as well as hearing decisions of the Adirondack Park Agency (1996-2010) and Lake George Park Commission (2001-2007) are also included.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, neither the site's calendar nor the data associated with the site's Nature Explorer app could be captured in late 2019.
