Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the New York State Department of Labor.

B2131-07: This accretion consists of a copy of the main site of the New York State Department of Labor produced on December 24, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains information about the department's mission and organizational structure; and publications (2002-2006) concerning apprenticeships, unemployment insurance, services for veterans, employee safety and health, current labor laws and standards, and services for businesses and job seekers. Content also includes press releases (2004-2006); annual reports (2001-2006); newsletters (2003-2006); and work force and industry data including average and prevailing wages of different occupations (2002-2006) and unemployment rates (2006). Listings of local Department of Labor offices throughout the state and information about employment of minors, such as child performers, is also included.

Also present is information about specific Department of Labor programs including Worker Protection, Standards and Licensing, Research and Statistics Division, Division of Employment Services, Unemployment Insurance Division, Veterans Services, and Workforce Development and Training.

This accretion also includes copies of six other websites maintained by the Department of Labor as of December 2006. Four of these sites furnish assistance to individuals seeking jobs in New York State. The New York's Job Bank (copied December 22, 2006) contains job postings and resumes of job seekers. The JobZone site (copied December 22, 2006) contains an online job search database. The CareerZone site (copied December 22, 2006) contains an online job search database for job seekers and students; and the HightechNY site (copied December 22, 2006) contains job listings for high-tech companies throughout New York state. However, researchers should note that, owing to the sites' live structure and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within these sites could not be captured successfully; moreover, some of the links within these copies may connect to the live versions of these sites.

The Prevailing Wage site (captured May 4, 2007) includes prevailing wage schedules and monthly updates (2006-2007). The Unemployment Insurance Benefits site, (captured December 22, 2006) provides access to an online unemployment claims filing system. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site could not be captured successfully; moreover, some of the links within this copy may connect to the live version of the site.

B2131-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the Department of Labor Web site produced on June 11, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the department's mission and organizational structure; and publications (2002-2008) concerning apprenticeships, unemployment insurance, services for veterans, employee safety and health, current labor laws and standards, and services for both businesses and job seekers. Also present are press releases (2006-2008); annual reports (2001-2008); newsletters (2004-2008); and work force and industry data including average and prevailing wages of different occupations (2003-2007) and unemployment rates (2008).
