Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the New York State Senate. Researchers should note that prior to mid-2008, efforts to copy the main Senate site were not successful.

B2197-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the official website of the Senate produced on August 20, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains press releases (2008), the Rules of the Senate (2008), the text of the State Constitution, and information about the history of the Senate and the legislative process in New York State. It also includes a photographic tour of the State Capitol and publications (2004-2008) written by the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, the Senate Finance Committee and other Senate committees, and individual senators. Information about programs for undergraduate and graduate students and "Senate Kids" pages, which contain games and puzzles and basic information about the legislative process and the branches of State government, are also present.

Researchers should note that as of August 2008, each senator had his or her own official website; as a result, this copy does not contain detailed information about individual senators who held office at the time this copy was produced. Researchers should also note that, in some instances, mousing over the floor maps in the photographic tour of the State Capitol may cause the maps to become blank. However, the maps work properly even when blank.

B2197-10: This accretion contains an August 4, 2010 copy of a site that the Senate created to allow citizens to share ideas relating to property tax reform. This site was removed from the live Web shortly after it was copied. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only part of this site could be captured.

B2197-11: This accretion consists of a copy of the New York State Senate website produced on January 11, 2011, shortly after Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains press releases (2010), official Senate blog posts (2010), the Rules of the Senate (2009-10), the text of the State Constitution, and information about the history of the Senate and the State's legislative process. It also includes information about the various Senate committees, task forces, and legislative commissions. Pages documenting individual senators contain links to press releases, biographies, photo galleries, sponsored legislation, and district maps. The site also contains information about programs for undergraduate and graduate students, and information concerning Senate initiatives relating to same sex marriage, property tax relief, job creation, and other social and financial issues.

This accretion also includes a December 29, 2010 copy of the Senate's Twitter feed. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live page and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the content contained within this feed could not be copied properly.

B2197-13: This accretion contains a copy of the New York State Senate website produced on January 3, 2013, shortly after the 2012 general election. It contains press releases (2012), Rules of the Senate (2011-12), and information about the history of the Senate and the State's legislative process. Pages documenting individual senators contain links to press releases, biographies, photo galleries, sponsored legislation, and district maps. Of particular note are notices concerning the creation of the Bipartisan Task Force on Hurricane Sandy Recovery and other materials documenting post-Sandy recovery efforts.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, some of the content on this site could not be captured properly. Researchers should also note that some of the navigational links that appear at the bottom of each page do not work properly; however, most of the navigational links that appear at the top of each page do work correctly.

This accretion also contains a January 7, 2013 copy of the Senate's Twitter feed. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live page and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the content contained within this feed could not be copied properly.

B2197-13A: This accretion consists of a copy of the webpage of Senator Malcolm A. Smith produced on April 29, 2013 and a copy of the webpage of Senator John L. Sampson produced on May 9, 2013. Smith left office on December 31, 2014 and Sampson left office on July 24, 2015.

B2197-15: This accretion consists of a copy of the New York State Senate website produced on December 22, 2014, shortly after the November 2014 general election. It contains press releases (2011-2014), the text of the State Constitution, and information about the history of the Senate and the legislative process in New York State. It also includes information about the various Senate committees, task forces, and legislative commissions. Content on the individual senators consists of press releases (2011-2014), as well as abiography, a photo gallery, legislation sponsored by the senator, and a map of the senator's district (2014). Information about initiatives of the Senate relating to property tax relief, women in social and political activities, military veterans, and other social and financial issues are also present.

This accretion also contains a January 27, 2015 copy of the Senate's Twitter feed. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live page and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the content contained within this feed could not be copied properly.

B2197-18: This accretion consists of a copy of the New York State Senate website produced on December 19, 2018, shortly after the November 2018 general election. It contains press releases (July-December 2018) and information about the history of the Senate and the legislative process in New York State. It also includes information about the various Senate committees, task forces, and legislative commissions. Content concerning individual Senators consists of press releases (2018), as well as biographies, videos, and information about legislation sponsored by the senator. Information about initiatives of the Senate relating to addiction, the centennial of women's enfranchisement, military veterans, and other social and financial issues are also present. In addition, information about bills recently passed by the Senate and bills recently signed into law by the Governor is present; however, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, not all of this information could be captured properly.

B2197-20: This accretion consists of a copy of the New York State Senate site produced on December 29, 2020, several weeks after the general election of 2020. It contains newer press releases (2020) and updated information about individual Senators and Senate committees, task forces, and caucuses. Updated information about bills recently passed by the Senate and bills recently signed into law by the Governor is also included; however, some of this information could not be captured properly. Of note are press releases, articles, and other materials documenting the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
