Administrative History

Senator James S. Alesi, a Republican, was first elected to the Senate in a 1996 special election. He represents the 55th Senate District, which consists of sections of Monroe County, and has served as chair (2001-2008) and ranking minority member (2009-2010) of the Standing Committee on Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business. Researchers should note that Senator Alesi apparently did not have an official website as of late 2006, when Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. Moreover, in 2009, each senator was allotted space on the main Senate Web site and the official sites of individual senators were removed from the live Web.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of an archival copy of the official website of Senator James S. Alesi produced on June 13, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains biographical information; press releases (2008); the final report (2004) of the Senate "NextGen" Task Force on Economic Development and the Emerging Industries concerning the high-technology and biotechnology industries; and information about a Senate Republican plan (2007) to revitalize the upstate economy. Also included is a list of Senator Alesi's 2007-08 member item initiatives.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site could not be captured properly. In addition, some of the navigational links do not work properly. However, identical sets of navigational links appear at the top and the bottom of each page. If the link in one set does not work correctly, click the Web browser's Back button and then click on the corresponding link in the other set.
